What the accommodations have
All ten have a kitchen, a washing machine, a dishwasher, Wi-Fi, bed linen, towels and a parking space that also fits a van. Nine of ten have separate beds and self check-in: anyone arriving late in the evening does not have to wait for anyone. The message with the door code is also available in English. Four can be booked instantly online with “Book now” on their page.
Working in Darmstadt
Since 1997 Darmstadt has carried the honorary title “Wissenschaftsstadt” (City of Science), as the first city in Germany. In and around the city there is construction for research, industry and housing, for example:
- At the GSI Helmholtz Centre, the FAIR particle accelerator is being built on around 20 hectares, an investment of 3.3 billion euros. Commissioning starts step by step from the end of 2027.
- Merck invested around 255 million euros in expanding its Darmstadt site in 2025.
- In the new Ludwigshöhviertel district, on the site of the former Cambrai-Fritsch barracks and the Jefferson housing estate, up to 1,400 homes are being built.
If you are not travelling by van: from Dreieich-Buchschlag the S6 runs every half hour and takes 18 minutes to Darmstadt central station. From Griesheim, tram line 4 takes just under 20 minutes to Luisenplatz in the city centre.
